After one year signing the deal, Gilbert along with Doby and Maxwell released their first album “From the Bottom Up”. Although their first single “Pass the Lovin’” didn’t immediately gain traction, their second single “If You Love Me” became a megahit. The popularity of the song catapulted the three to stardom, and it even gained nomination in the Grammy Awards. The group was able to release a total of four albums, and are credited with producing such big hits like “Grapevyne”, “I Can’t Tell You Why”, and “5 Miles to Empty”. Gilbert’s career with the group helped her career in music tremendously, and also raised her net worth.

After the band broke up, Gilbert shifted into acting, and appeared in movies such “Woo” and “What Happens in Vegas”. She also appeared in television shows including “Living Single” and “Martin”. Later, she started her own artist development company N-Go Entertainment, and also ventured into producing film, theatre, and television productions.
